Acne scars are not merely physical scars. For some of us the scar runs deeper through the skin surface to a point where you become your own nightmare in front of the mirror every morning.
There maybe dozens of effective not to mention very unhealthy prescribed treatments out there for acne scars, however, there is nothing reassuring like knowing you are treating yourselves with all natural ingredients.
I have had my own battle wth acne scars for years. So when I tell you I feel you, trust me girl I really do. Which is why I narrowed down the face care routine that helped save my skin for you all today.
1. Cleanse
Even though cleansing daily won't show a huge difference on your scars, you should remember a clean face is always the starting point for any treatment. Therefore never skip it!
In this step you can use any of your daily cleansers or face washes that have always worked for you. However, as I am taking the all-natural approach in this article let me share with you my favorite one-ingredient cleanser which beats all those high-ended cleansers out there.
Oatmeal with water
▽ Once a day
▽ At night preferably
♡ Soaks up excess oil on the skin
♡ Anti-inflammatory
♡ Antibacterial
♡ Rich with anti-oxidants
♡ Moisturizing
There is a reason why oatmeal is found in most of them acne fighting skincare products. It's god given!!
Oatmeal is also known to be high in fat which will help soak up all those nasty excess sebum that will clog your pores. This will not only help with your existing acne but it will also stop any new pimple friends from camping on your face again. Win-win!
TIP: Grind or blend the oats into a powder before mixing with water. This will avoid (or at least minimize) the chunky-mess you will have to face. Literally.
2. Exfoliate
This right here is the magical step that will polish those scars away good bye. Exfoliation, whether it's chemical or physical is the most crucial treatment for any scar. The technique will scrub off all the dead skin cells and help the skin regenerate a new layer of tissue. Simply, exfoliation speeds up the healing of the skin.
Now as the oatmeal got it's own grainy texture it will play it's own part with the exfoliating, but not as effective as the star of my face routine.... *drumroll*
Turmeric-Water Scrub
▽ Once every-other-day
▽ At night
♡ Antiseptic
♡ Antibacterial
♡ Skin brightening
♡ Reduces skin inflammation
Before you all go "what? again??" on me, there is a reason why I mention turmeric in most of my articles. This piece of heavenly root has always been my savior since years.
I have a pretty sensitive skin. Through trial and error I have had my fair share of very misfortunate oopsies while trying out DIY treatments at home. But turmeric never disappointed me!! It's grainy enough to scrub my skin but also delicate enough to be gentle with zero irritation.
If any beauty expert is to advice you on skin brightening I bet you turmeric will be mentioned in the priority list. The brightening agents will work along so well with the exfoliation that the acne scars will fade away in no time.
I usually mix a few drops of water on my home-ground turmeric powder and massage it on my face. If I have time I let it sit on for 15 minutes for prolonged benefits. Watch out though, this will stain your face a bit but a drop of face wash will help wash it off.
3. Mask
My favorite step as it always makes me feel all pampered!! Any mask packed on face after a good exfoliation will deep treat your skin to a luxurious spa-level. This is exactly why we need to think not twice but ten times before we put something on as a mask.
Talking about good masks, can anyone ever deny the amazing anti-scar properties of the good old lemon and honey?
Lemon-honey Face Pack
▽ Once/ twice a week
▽ At night
▽ 30 minutes - 1 Hour or until it's sticky and dry
♡ Rich in Vitamin C
♡ Skin lightening
♡ Anti-aging
♡ Antibacterial
♡ Soothing
♡ Moisturizing
Two of those few ingredients in the beauty world that lighten up dark spots both naturally and very effectively. The best thing is these healers work its magic on their own so all you have to do is sit back and relax.
While the lemon work on the pigmentation, the honey will soothe your skin preparing it for the final step.
4. Moisturize
Time to seal in the freshly pampered skin and soak it back with h2o. If you have read my past articles, you know what I always bring up when I mention hydration.
Yes, water. But also Aloevera!!
Aloevera gel
▽ Daily
▽ Apply a thin layer overnight
♡ Fights skin inflammations
♡ Anti-fungal
♡ Heals wounds
♡ Soothes skin
♡ Anti-fungal
♡ Heals wounds
♡ Soothes skin
The perfect finishing touch. Aloevera will re-soak the treated tissues with moisture helping the tissues heal even faster. The bonus properties like anti-fungal and antiseptic properties will further treat the skin overnight.
If all these 4 steps are done ritually I swear 90% of your scars will fade away within a few weeks. However it doesn't mean choosing to go on with just one out of the 4 steps will be less effective.
No matter which decision you take, each and every ingredient I mentioned in this article has played it's own major role in treating my scars.
However, always remember there are two key things the effectiveness of these treatments will be based on. Patience and trust. Having a little bit of patience and trust will do wonders on your skin.
And Hipogirl swears by it!
Until next time,
xoxo Hipogirl
