10 Tips To Make Your Hair Grow Faster

Among all the haircare requests I get, tips on getting longer hair is handsdown the most requested so far. Hair growth is such a broad topic to talk about as there are so many things that hinder hair growth. Ranging from genetics, diets, skin conditions to hormonal issues, the whole issue as you can imagine depends from individual to individual.
To answer the frequently ask question "how did you grow your hair so long?", 70% of the credits goes to the amazing genes my mom passed on to me. However, through years of research and undying passion for haircare, I did learn quite a few things that promote hair growth and help with hair thinning/loss.

1. Hair trimming

I have talked about this before but it is worth the repeat. If you see split ends or dried ends in your hair it is crucial to get it trimmed. Myth or not, I am a firm believer in the fact trimming your hair at least once every 2 months leads to more healthier hair, hence leads to rapid hair growth.

2. Hot oil treatments

If you are a follower of my instagram you would know my love for hot oil treatments. That's because I believe there is no better way to show love to your hair (or body) than with a good soak of oil. Oils are natural divine liquids that nourish your body cells in and out. Of course you can get these treatments done at a salon, but if you are as lazy as me you can do it at home.
Preheating the oil slightly will help open up the hair follicles for maximum absorption. I usually use my trusty coconut oil for hot oil treatments, but there are so many more amazing oils you can use. For instance, olive oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, grape seed oil, castor oil, etc.
If you want to know more about hot oil treatment, I am working on an in-depth article about it as per high requests, so stay tuned!!

3. Showering with cold water

This tip will help all you frizzballs out there. When it comes to hindered hair growth it is important to look into things that torture your hair shafts. And usually one main culprit of this is hot showers. Hot water unlike cold water rips your hair cuticles and dehydrate the locks which ultimately leads to hair shedding, thinning and damaged hair. Cold water on the other hand is best at constricting your open follicles and sealing in the hair moisture. This may sound very basic, but for your hair it is an heavenly treatment. However, if you are someone who hates cold showers like me, use warm water to wash off shampoo and conditioners, then finish off with a splash cold water to seal in the hair.

4. Head massages

Among the DIY hair masks and products hype, one crucial thing most people overlook is the blood circulation. A basic understanding of human biology will show you if your skin cells are acting out that's probably because it doesn't get the necessary flow of oxygen and blood flow. Well I wish this was about vampire masks but it is much simpler than it looks. Taking 15 minutes off your nightly  routine to give yourself simple scalp massages will reboot your hair tissues. You can incorporate this with your shower, oil treatments, morning hair prep or every night before bed.

5. Less heat

Would you believe me if I say I can't remember the last time I used heat on my hair? The exact theory that I talked about hot water showers apply here. Heat always damages your hair cuticles and eventually affect your scalp in the longrun. So that clearly says heat is one of your worst enemies if you are looking forward to grow your hair. For this exact reason I always try to air dry my hair after showers.
If you have rebonded/ artificially straightened hair, I recommend only getting it done at salons once every few months semi-permanently and refrain from running your hot straightener through your hair everyday. Another great tip is using the cold setting on your hair dryer to dry/ straighten hair. Of course this is not 100% healthy but it is so much better than using hot tools and blow drying with hot air everyday.

6. Get your vitamins

It's always best to nourish your body internally if you want to see the best external results. There are dozens of vitamins out there with various brands so before you consume any,  get advise from a dermatologist. One of my trusties are Vitamin E, Vitamin A and Omega-3 oils. I personally use Seven Seas Pure Cod Liver oil tablets as it contains a good amount of vitamin A, D, E and Omega-3 oils in it.

7. Hair masks

As you feed in the good stuff internally, pampering your scalp with some good DIY masks can additionally give a boost for your hair to grow faster. Along with hot oil treatments, try making masks consisting super-ingredients like eggs, honey, avacado, vitamin E oil, plain yogurt, and banana for maximum benefits.

8. Look into your diet

Shall we take a moment to get a flashback of our moms, grannies and auntys shoving in greens and curries in our throats to give us longer hair? Oh well here is Hipoaunty in action!!!
Jokes aside it's a proven fact what you take in determines what you show off. And yes, unfortunately as much as it is annoying to read this, diet indeed plays a main role in our hair growth. Apart from the obvious vitamin intake, you should focus on cutting down any excess sugary and oily food and drinks as much as possible if you are looking forward to having a healthy hair growth.
Instead try incorporating more greens and vitamin rich vegetables and meat in to your diet at all times. And no I didn't forget my most raved on tip in this blog. Water! If you want to see a major change in your hair and skin try simply doubling the usual water intake. I will vouch in for the difference you will see!

9. Get professional help

I have seen many girls asking me for DIY masks, product and treatment recommendations because apparently no matter what they do it doesn't help stop their hair shedding, hair thinning or lack of hair growth. It is important to understand you cannot expect home regimes to always treat all your hair/skin issues. If you see yourself struggling with your health you always go consult a doctor. Similarly, your hair needs attention of a dermatologist if things get worse with time. As someone who have been a frequent dermatologist visitor, I have found one main reason for these hair issues is hormonal imbalances and nutritional deficiencies.

10. Treat your hair right
